Set Up:

Part One: Groups of four pass the ball within their box in sequence, from 1 to 2  to 3 to 4. When 4 receives, 1 makes a run into the adjacent box (the groups move clockwise) to receive the next pass from 4. Players 2, 3, and 4 follow the pass into the next box and the passing sequence begins again.

Part Two: On the coach’s signal, one team kicks their ball away and tries to clear the other three balls out of the square. The other three teams combine to keep possession of the three balls. When all of the balls are cleared out, the teams return to their boxes to re-start the passing sequence.

Coaching Points:

1   Decision Making – The closest defender goes to the ball immediately.

2   Communication – The first defender shouts, “Ball!”.

3   Support – The 2nd defender(s) cut the help, and the 3rd defender looks to steal the next pass.

Progressions:

1 – The four teams race each other around the square, trying to be the first team to return the ball to their original box.

2 – The team that loses the passing race in Part One becomes the defending team.
