Midfield Transition Game
Midfield Transition Game
Set Up:
The teams begin play with a 4v4 plus one in the central zone. From there, the attacking team has three ways to score:
1. Pass to a teammate inside of the penalty area. The attackers try to finish 2v2.
2. Dribble into the penalty area and attack the goal 3v2.
3. Dribble into a flank zone to get a free cross into the penalty area. From there, play goes to completion.
During the game, the players in the penalty area must stay inside of the penalty area. The neutral player (in green) always plays with the attacking team.
Coaching Points:
1. Spacing – When attacking, use the entire zone and try to isolate defenders 1v1 and 2v1.
2. Concentration – Do not “switch off” after a turnover. Keep playing.
3. Transition – Anticipate the turnover and start moving before your opponent does.
Progressions:
1. Attackers are allowed to shoot from the central zone
