Receiving Drill – Part 4
Receiving Drill – Part 4
Set Up:
Player 1 makes a vertical run from Cone 1 and thru the corner gate to receive a pass. He opens up with his first touch and then passes to Player 2 as he comes from Cone 2 thru the center gate. Player 2 opens up, and then plays the ball outside to Player 3, making his run thru the corner gate from Cone 3. After Player 3 receives, he passes to Player 4 as he comes thru the center gate from Cone 2. Player 4 will end up passing to Player 5 at the corner gate. The ball continues to move in this 'V' pattern, with players passing from the corner gates back to the central gate. During the drill, the passers goes to the line that they passed to.
Coaching Points:
1. Timing – Strike your pass as the player turns thru the gate and looks up.
2. First Touch – Open up and touch the ball off at an angle. Play in a quick two touch rhythm.
3. Speed of Play – Sprint to the ball when you receive it. Don’t wait for the ball to come to you.
Progressions/Regression:
Progression 1 – Use three player combinations, moving the ball from one corner gate to the other.
